How much office space do you need?


A common problem our clients come across when looking for office space is, How much space do we need?

Planning carefully is vital for growth, common issues arise in having to much space or too little!

Having the wrong space can interrupt your business or make it difficult to operate, but there are some techniques you can employ to get it just right. First, you need to assess your current situation, and then decide what your expectations are for the growth of your business over the next few years. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does each employee need an individual desk or is sharing possible?

  • Over what period of time will I add the staff?

  • What kind of staff will I be adding, executive, administrative, or sales?

  • What size desks are appropriate and will i need more storage?

  • Is our current office able to expand to accommodate our needs?

A good standard to go by is around 40-60square feet (SF) per person employed, if in a flexible space. On one end sales focused teams generally have desks or workstations grouped together. At the other end is the traditional hard-wall or private office spaces, for Skilled professional such as Law offices, the majority of firms we aid have private offices. There may be instances where both layouts combined are needed.
